About

Hi — I'm Ash.

I look after Brisbane's pets in their own homes, and I board a small number in mine. Not an agency, not a roster of contractors. When you book, I'm the person who turns up.

The story

It started with a dachshund who wouldn't settle.

Bone Voyage is the same business that traded as Ash & Hound, and as Happy Paws Brisbane before that. Same person, same dogs, same small book of clients — and years of looking after the pets other people found difficult: the anxious ones, the elderly ones, the ones on four medications with a note on the fridge two pages long.

What I learned is unglamorous: most pets don't need something clever. They need the ordinary thing done properly, every single day, by somebody who bothered to learn what the ordinary thing is.

So the business is built around a small book of clients. Fewer bookings means I can hold a routine in my head rather than on a clipboard, and it means I'm not spread across six houses at dinner time.

How I work

Four things I won't move on.

1 Honesty

I'll tell you if I'm not the answer

Including when a neighbour popping in would do, or when your dog would genuinely be happier boarding somewhere with other dogs. I'd rather lose the booking than take one that doesn't suit the animal.

2 Capacity

A small book, held deliberately

I turn work away in peak weeks. That's not scarcity marketing — it's the only way the rest of this is true.

3 Communication

You hear the bad news first

Off their food, a limp, a night of pacing. You get told the same day, plainly, not buried in a cheerful photo caption.

4 Discretion

Your house stays your business

Alarm codes, keys, who comes and goes. Keys are labelled by code, never by address, and nothing about your home goes on the internet.

The hounds

The reason for the name.

Two long-haired dachshunds who supervise everything, contribute nothing, and are extremely good at their jobs.

Questions

Before you book.

Are you insured?
Yes — I carry pet-sitting business insurance, and I'm happy to show you the certificate of currency at the meet-and-greet.
Do you have first aid training?
Yes, pet first aid, and I keep it current. It's mostly useful for knowing when something is a wait-and-see and when it's a drive to the vet right now.
What's the connection to Happy Paws Brisbane?
Same person, same clients, new name. Bone Voyage is the current name — it was Ash & Hound before that. If you booked with Happy Paws before, nothing about how this works has changed.
Can I meet you before booking?
Please do. The meet-and-greet is free and it's genuinely the most useful half hour in the whole process.
